THE FINDERS JOURNEY – NATIVE RED LIME GIN

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

In our previous blog post The Finders Journey – Opening Our Doors, we talked about launching our business during the mess that was 2020. We are now halfway through 2021 and while not much has changed pandemic-wise, we have managed to successfully launch the first product in our Finders Location Series.

Finders started out for us as an idea on an around the world trip and the Location Series continues that spirit of travel for us. For each Location series release we will be sourcing botanicals from a region of Australia and creating a bespoke spirit from them. Highlighting not only the local produce but also the region they came from.

With the Location Series being the ethos behind Finders, we have worked hard the past year to get this product off the ground during multiple lockdowns and travel restrictions.

The first release in the series is our Native Red Lime Gin. An intensely citrus gin made using locally grown produce from Gondwana Native Limes in the Macleay Valley Coast region of NSW. It features Australian Red Limes and Native Red Finger Limes, complimented by Tahitian Limes and Kaffir Lime Leaf. It packs a serious citrus punch!

We have always enjoyed citrus forward gins and pairing our G&Ts with lime, so making a truly lime forward gin really intrigued us. While a few people are starting to use finger limes, the Aussie red lime seemed to be a bit of well-kept secret. We knew with their thin skin and slightly sweet, citrus flavour profile they were going to be killer when distilled. The result… this gin will take you on a refreshingly citrus walk through the Aussie Bush.

The Location Series for us though is not only about creating great spirits. The intent behind the series is to inspire others to not only experience new flavours, but also travel to and explore the beautiful places they came from.

So, with the hope this release will encourage people to follow in our footsteps, we took a trip to the Macleay Valley Coast to see all the region has to offer. With it’s mix of beaches, hinterland and national parks it’s an interesting place to explore. As big fans of bushwalking and camping there are endless options. Throw in some historic pubs in Bellbrook & Willawarrin, coastal walks at Hat Head National Park & Surfing at Crescent Head and you have more than enough to keep you busy.

While in the area we also visited Gondwana Native Limes and toured the beautiful Orchards with Warren and Hamish (the resident Border Collie). Seeing where the produce has come from and tasting the fruit fresh from the Orchard is an afternoon we won’t soon forget.

Take a look at the video we made about the creation of this one-of-a-kind gin below.
